Nocturnal burglars caught thanks to neighbor

Two female burglars were up to mischief in an apartment building in Innsbruck on Monday night: The two women broke into a bicycle room and wanted to steal an e-scooter. A neighbor got wind of this and immediately raised the alarm.

One of the suspects is just 16 years old. The Bulgarian is said to have broken into the locked bike room together with a Slovakian woman (31) at just before 1 a.m. in the night.

Neighbor observed the duo
"They then broke open the lock of an e-scooter and tried to steal it", according to the police. An attentive neighbor was able to observe the duo and alerted the police.

Suspects arrested
A patrol arrived at the scene a short time later and was able to arrest the two suspected burglars. The duo were then taken to the Innsbruck police detention center.

Probably more crimes
As the police reported days after the burglary, the 31-year-old woman is suspected of having committed seven burglaries, some attempted, some completed, in cellar compartments in Innsbruck at the beginning of July. Over a period of three weeks, she is said to have stolen seven e-scooters.

The woman has now been sent to Innsbruck prison. The 16-year-old has since been released.
