Fire department rescues deer stuck in a fence

The fire department is also there for animals! The members of the Ottensheim volunteer fire department in Upper Austria proved this on Tuesday evening. They rescued a desperate deer from a difficult situation and unknowingly ensured that three fawns did not lose their mother. 

It was early evening on Tuesday when a local resident in Ottensheim made a discovery. A deer had become trapped in the gate to a private property and could no longer move forwards or backwards. The resident immediately called the fire department.

Animal already weakened
"The animal could no longer get through the fence with its pelvis," says commander Josef Amtmann, describing the situation. And he immediately got to work, holding the completely frightened and weakened animal. The deer was then quickly freed using hydraulic rescue equipment.

"In the meantime, we called a hunter because we didn't know how badly the animal was injured," says Amtmann. Fortunately, it turned out that the deer only had minor abrasions and so it could be released again.

"Fortunately, because the hunter told us that the animal had three fawns waiting in the forest," says Amtmann.
