Rental car crashes into rock face: two seriously injured

Two people were seriously injured in a fatal traffic accident in the Tyrolean Lech Valley late on Monday afternoon. A German lost control of a rental car and crashed head-on into a rock face. The driver and his passenger had to be transported by helicopter.

The 36-year-old German, who was accompanied by a fellow countryman (33), was driving the rental car on the Berwang-Namloser Landstraße (L21) in the direction of Stanzach at around 5.30 pm.

The car went over the left edge of the road and crashed head-on into a rock face.

For unknown reasons, the driver then suddenly lost control of the car. "The car went over the left edge of the road and crashed head-on into a rock face," reported the police.

To clinic and hospital by helicopter
According to the investigators, the 36-year-old driver and his co-driver suffered serious injuries. The former was flown to Innsbruck Hospital by emergency helicopter after first aid at the scene of the accident. His co-driver was taken by helicopter to the district hospital in Reutte.

The rental car was totaled. The accident caused traffic obstructions on the country road.
