Sudan: Millions starving, aid workers in danger

In Sudan, where over 25 million people are threatened by hunger, it is proving extremely difficult to provide the urgently needed aid. Violence, displacement and impassable roads are presenting aid workers with immense challenges.

Around ten million people are displaced within the country and around two million have fled to neighboring countries. More than four million children have been forced to leave their homes due to the violence.

25.6 million people - more than half of the Sudanese population - are suffering from a hunger crisis, with 755,000 on the brink of famine.

However, it is extremely difficult for aid organizations to reach those affected. Due to the ongoing fighting, mass displacement, denied access for humanitarian aid and rains that make roads impassable, food can only be delivered with great difficulty.

On World Humanitarian Day, World Vision, one of the world's largest humanitarian aid organizations, is calling for unrestricted access for aid workers in crisis areas.
