Car driver collided with the Zillertalbahn

Once again there was a collision at a level crossing on the Zillertalbahn on Monday. A Bosnian driver had apparently not been paying enough attention near Schlitters.

The collision occurred shortly after 11.30 a.m. at Herzogweg: The Bosnian woman (32) drove her car into the level crossing, which is secured by the "STOP" traffic sign. She obviously overlooked the regional train coming from Mayrhofen.

Train driver slammed on the brakes
The train driver, a 42-year-old Hungarian, was unable to stop the train despite emergency braking, which is why a collision occurred. The rear of the car was hit and turned by 90 degrees. It came to a standstill on the adjacent local road. The train came to a final standstill after about 20 meters.

Driver in hospital
The driver and all occupants of the train (approx. 30 people) were not injured in the incident. The driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to Schwaz hospital by the ambulance service. Only one lane of the main road could be used for half an hour.
