Russian burglars caught red-handed

A Klagenfurt restaurant owner's cell phone suddenly went off in the middle of the night. His surveillance system reported a break-in via an app.

The alarm went off at around 4.15 am on Saturday night. The bar owner was able to see two burglars wearing masks in his Klagenfurt bar via his app - he immediately alerted the police. "When several patrols arrived, the perpetrators ran out of the restaurant and tried to escape," the police reported. "Officers took up the chase and were able to catch up with the two after just a few meters and arrest them."

During the escape, one of the two had thrown away his rucksack. "This was then found. It contained two screwdrivers, a flashlight and adhesive tape," the police continued. "Both men, who are 42 and 39 years old, are Russian citizens." During the break-in, the perpetrators wore gardening gloves and tube scarves to disguise themselves. Their "getaway vehicles", two stolen bicycles, were also found near the scene of the crime.

After their arrest, the two Russians were taken to the police detention center in Klagenfurt - investigations by the criminal investigation department will now show whether they are also suspects in other crimes.
