Eleven injured after two accidents

In Steinfeld in Upper Carinthia, a driver had a car accident due to microsleep, in Afritz a man drove his car into the oncoming lane and crashed into a car.

Between 4.30 and 4.45 p.m. on Friday, several fire departments in Upper Carinthia sounded their sirens, the police were also called out and the emergency services had their hands full.

A 73-year-old driver veered left into oncoming traffic on the Millstätter Bundesstraße in Afritz and crashed head-on into the car of a 48-year-old German.

Both drivers were injured, as was the woman (69) who was traveling with the 73-year-old - she had to be flown to Klagenfurt Hospital by the C11 team - and the occupants of the German's car: his wife (46) and children (9, 16 and 18 years old).

Both vehicles were totaled. The fire departments of Afritz, Treffen, Feld am See and Radenthein were deployed with 67 men.

The main road was closed until 7 p.m. for the accident investigation and clean-up work.

Microsleep
In Radlach near Steinfeld, a man from Graz (29) briefly fell asleep while driving. The car veered into the oncoming lane, rolled over into the ditch and came to rest on its wheels.

The driver, the front passenger (28), a 24-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man in the rear were injured and taken to hospital in Spittal by the ambulance service. The road was closed until 6.30 pm.
