Climber falls into the rope, injures himself seriously

Although the climber was seriously injured, it could have turned out much worse. When a hold or rock suddenly broke off the wall, the climber fell - but his belayer stopped the fall.

The alpinist's belayer - both members of a six-person group from the German Alpine Club - reacted with lightning speed and presence of mind on Saturday, saving his climbing partner from worse. The group had climbed the "Hintere Goinger Halt - Nordgrat" route in Kirchdorf in Tyrol. As the lead climber reached for a hold or rock, it suddenly broke away, leaving the lead climber unable to hold on.

Serious injuries to his foot and hand
He fell four meters into the rope, sustaining serious injuries to his left foot and right hand. His partner was able to secure him and prevent worse. He was also the one who made the emergency call. The injured man was rescued by the emergency helicopter and taken to St. Johann Hospital.
