Violence between women: Police find hand grenade

The Vienna police would never have imagined that they would find an arsenal of weapons in the apartment of a female couple in Kagran on Sunday night. The officers were actually only supposed to settle an argument between the two women, but then a practice hand grenade was found ...

Officers were called to the apartment in Kagran at around 2.15 a.m. because there had been a relationship dispute between a woman (23) and her 38-year-old partner. The two women are also said to have become violent.

Arsenal of weapons discovered in the apartment
The officers were able to calm the situation immediately and issued a no-entry and no-approach order for the 38-year-old woman. But then the police made another discovery in the course of their official action: several weapons - some of them banned - and a practice hand grenade were hidden in the apartment. 

House searched immediately
According to the police, an explosives expert had to assist the emergency services. During a house search, other prohibited weapons, including a telescopic baton and a manslayer, were also found and seized.

Woman would not have known about weapons
"The 23-year-old was provisionally arrested as she was in unlawful possession of these weapons", reported police spokesman Philipp Haßlinger on Monday. During questioning, the suspect claimed not to know how the weapons came to be in the apartment. Further investigations are underway.
