Freight train hits worker in China – six dead

Six workers were hit and killed by a freight train in northern China on Tuesday. The train ran into the group in the early hours of the morning (local time) for unknown reasons, the railroad company announced.

Two people died at the scene of the accident between the towns of Tangyuan and Changjiang, and four others died later after being rescued. Four workers were also injured. According to the railroad company, it quickly initiated rescue measures after the accident.

The company wanted to "do everything in its power" to clarify the cause of the accident in order to prevent such an incident from happening again in the future. The company expressed its condolences to the families of the victims.

The accident site was in the north-eastern province of Heilongjiang. The Suijia railroad line there runs for a total of around 380 kilometers through mountainous areas and forests to Jiamusi. The accident happened towards the end of the line.
