Spain start their European Championship preparations with 29 players

Spain have started their preparations for the European Championship in Germany with a 29-man squad. National coach Luis de la Fuente named five players each from Barcelona and Real Sociedad in the provisional squad on Monday, while three professionals from champions Real Madrid have made it onto the list.

The most prominent absentee is Marco Asensio from Paris St. Germain. The squad must be reduced to a maximum of 26 players by June 7.

Spain will play against Croatia (June 15), Italy (June 20) and Albania (June 24) at the finals. Before that, "La Roja" will play two test matches against Andorra (June 5) and Northern Ireland (June 8).
