Styrian (45) dead
Mother found son trapped between trees
Tragic forest accident on Friday in Frohnleiten (Styria): A 45-year-old man was found dead in the forest. The rescue operation in the steep terrain was a challenge for the emergency services.
At around 8 a.m. on Friday, the man had gone into his own forest in Frohnleiten to fell trees and carry out forestry work, according to the police. He was supposed to come home around noon - but stayed away.
At 1 pm, his mother went to look in the forest. She discovered her son pinned motionless between two tree trunks. The woman immediately called the emergency services, the Red Cross and fire department arrived, as did the C17 emergency helicopter.
"Air rescuers and the emergency doctor had to be roped down from the helicopter to the accident victim due to the steep, impassable terrain," said the police. It was too late: "However, the emergency doctor could only determine the death of the 45-year-old." The 45-year-old's upper body had been fatally injured by the trunks of two felled spruce trees.
The man's body had to be brought to a meadow by helicopter and was transported from there.
