Car hit by train: Driver (24) dead
Fatal crash in south-eastern Styria: For reasons still unknown, a 24-year-old female driver rolled her car onto an unrestricted level crossing in Halbenrain just as a train was passing through. It was no longer possible to prevent a collision. All help came too late for the driver.
The train driver had sent out an emergency signal, but was no longer able to prevent a collision. The train collided with the vehicle, the car was thrown away by the impact and crashed into a telephone pole.
The emergency doctor who was called could no longer help the woman. The train driver and the train passengers were not injured. A breathalyzer test carried out on the train driver was negative. The relatives of the deceased are being looked after by a crisis intervention team.
It is less than two months since the last accident at this exact spot. A 54-year-old Styrian man overlooked a stop sign at the end of March and was hit by the train. He escaped with injuries.
