Anne Hathaway (41) used to be chronically stressed, just like her role in "The Devil Wears Prada". It was so bad that the actress even found it difficult to breathe. She tried to combat this enormous stress with alcohol.

Actress Anne Hathaway usually appears relaxed and in a good mood during appearances. But that wasn't always the case: In the podcast "The Interview", she now talked about how stressed she used to be. However, she has since realized that stress in life is not worth it. That's why she now does things differently.

Hathaway always played "chronically stressed women"
According to the 41-year-old, she has become more relaxed as she has got older. While reflecting on the roles at the beginning of her career in the podcast "The Interview" of the "New York Times", Hathaway said that she probably often played "chronically stressed young women" because she was like that herself.

"I was a really stressed young woman." However, this condition "leads you to all sorts of things" and she realized for herself that she didn't want to die stressed.

She "didn't know how to breathe yet"
She paid too little attention to herself. "I didn't know how to breathe yet," explained the mother of two. "And that was really complicated. It was really, really complicated not knowing how to breathe." That's why "literally everything" in her life as a young woman in Hollywood stressed her out at some point.

Hathaway combated stress with alcohol
Hathaway even felt "somatic" stress, i.e. the effects on her body. This is probably why she began to consume alcohol regularly to cope with her constant stress. "It was like a smouldering fuel for me," she explained just a few weeks ago in an interview with "Vanity Fair" on the subject of alcohol.

Deep down, she knew "it wasn't for me". Hathaway has now been abstaining from drinking for five years, and she has vowed to abstain from alcohol for as long as her sons live with her.
