Two injured
Cycling season starts with serious crossing accident
A racing cyclist suffered a broken pelvis on Friday evening in a collision with a car in which he was thrown against the windshield and then over the vehicle onto the asphalt. Shortly beforehand, the 33-year-old driver of the car wanted to turn left into Moosstraße coming from Neutorstraße. According to his own statements, he overlooked the two racing cyclists who were traveling towards the city on Neutorstraße. The first cyclist, a 28-year-old Frenchman, hit the right-hand side of the vehicle first. His 30-year-old companion from Austria tried to avoid the car, touched the rear of the car with his handlebars and also suffered injuries as a result of the fall. Both riders were taken to hospital by the emergency services. Alcohol tests were negative for all those involved.
With the rising temperatures, there are also more cyclists on the local roads. Experts therefore advise increased caution and attention, especially in spring. This applies to all road users. Cyclists in particular should be especially careful due to the lack of protection.
But politicians are also called upon to adapt to the ever-increasing number of cyclists. The future city councillor for transport, Anna Schiester (Citizens' List), has already set her sights on known danger spots. "There will be a task force for this," says Schiester and adds: "We have already agreed on a comprehensive cycling program with a significantly increased budget."
