UEFA presents 19 referees for EURO 2024
UEFA has presented a total of 19 referees for the 51 matches of the European Football Championship 2024 in Germany this summer. As the association announced on Tuesday, Facundo Tello, a referee from Argentina, is also part of the line-up for the European Championship as part of a cooperation with the South American association CONMEBOL, as was the case at Euro 2021. One referee from Austria did not make the squad for the final tournament this summer (June 14 to July 14).
There are two referees and their assistants each from Germany (Daniel Siebert, Felix Zwayer), Italy (Marco Guida, Daniele Orsato), England (Michael Oliver, Anthony Taylor) and France (Francois Letexier, Clement Turpin), as well as one referee each from Portugal (Artur Soares Dias), Spain (Jesus Gil Manzano), Romania (Istvan Kovacs), Slovakia (Ivan Kruzliak), the Netherlands (Danny Makkelie), Poland (Szymon Marciniak), Turkey (Halil Umut Meler), Sweden (Glenn Nyberg), Switzerland (Sandro Schärer) and Slovenia (Slavko Vincic).
No women in action
"All the referees selected have performed consistently well in UEFA's top competitions as well as in their national competitions," said Roberto Rosetti, UEFA's Head of Refereeing. Each match will have one referee, two assistant referees, a fourth official, a reserve assistant referee in the stadium and three video officials. There were also no Austrians among the 20 video officials. In contrast to the 2022 World Cup, there will also be no female referees in Germany; three women were nominated in Qatar.
