Burglars struck in three federal states
A trio of burglars in Lower Austria, Carinthia and Styria were mainly after jewelry and cash. The men committed a total of 27 crimes in the three federal states. Damage: 150,000 euros.
Three burglars looted a lot of jewelry and cash in Lower Austria, Carinthia and Styria. The Romanian nationals are responsible for nine attempted and 18 completed burglaries, the police announced in a press release on Tuesday. They are said to have caused around 150,000 euros in damage in the 27 crimes committed.
On December 8, 2023, the men committed an evening burglary in a residential building in Leopoldsdorf im Marchfeld in the district of Gänserndorf (Lower Austria) and fled the scene. The victim had alerted the police, who were able to catch the two men (30, 38) in a field. A suspected accomplice, the 29-year-old driver of the getaway vehicle, was caught the same evening.
Three federal states in their sights
In the course of investigations, the trio were charged with burglaries in single-family homes in Lower Austria in the districts of Melk, Neunkirchen, Bruck an der Leitha, St. Pölten-Land, Tulln, Mistelbach, Mödling, Gänserndorf, Baden and Korneuburg as well as in Styria in St. Margarethen near Knittelfeld in the district of Murtal. The men also struck at a restaurant in Friesach in the district of Sankt Veit an der Glan in Carinthia.
Imprisoned in St. Pölten
The trio of burglars had been on the loose since September last year. Some of the loot was recovered by the police and handed over to the victims. The three suspects have partially confessed and have been taken to St. Pölten prison.
