Accident on Tauern highway caused total closure

On Thursday evening, a 66-year-old car driver hit a concrete crash barrier on the Tauernautobahn (A10) in the roadworks area, causing the car to overturn. Following road users provided first aid. 

The driver from the district of Spittal was traveling from Villach in the direction of Salzburg on Thursday evening when she hit the sloping concrete crash barrier at the beginning of the roadworks area near Paternion, causing the car to come to rest on its driver's side after a few meters. 

Following road users helped the 66-year-old out of the car and administered first aid before she was taken to Spittal Hospital with undetermined injuries.

Alcohol test was negative
"It is still unclear why the accident occurred. A breathalyzer test carried out on the driver was negative," said the police. 

The vehicle sustained considerable material damage. The Tauernautobahn was closed to all traffic during the recovery work. The Paternion fire brigade was deployed with three vehicles and 20 emergency crews.
