After a series of burglaries
Taxi drivers on the hunt for criminals: “Back out again”
Salzburg's cab drivers are still trembling after their joint operation including the arrest of two perpetrators of further break-ins into their vehicles. Meanwhile, the police praise the drivers for their action ...
"The whole thing is not over yet," Franz Manussiger(name changed by the editors) is certain. The driver assumes that vandals are still targeting Salzburg cabs. "There's a gang at work," says Manussiger. In recent weeks, criminals have smashed the windows of more than 100 cabs. The loot was always modest, the damage to property huge.
The police were in the dark. But Manussiger and his colleagues stopped two cab burglars on Monday night - the "Krone" reported. Almost 80 taxi drivers went on the hunt for criminals together, patrolling the entire city area. An Iraqi man (28) and an Upper Austrian woman (18) are in custody, the stolen goods and tools of the trade were seized by investigators.
Taxi drivers have had enough - despite praise from the police
"Our operation was a bit dangerous," admits Manussiger. However, there was no alternative to the joint manhunt. "There's hardly a colleague who hasn't been caught yet. Enough is enough!" says the angry cab driver. And: "If there are any more break-ins, we'll be happy to go out again at any time."
The police themselves praised the cab drivers' actions and spoke of good cooperation. According to the current state of the investigation, the arrested duo is said to be responsible for at least 46 demolished cabs.
