Werder takes action! Keita suspended after scandal

Werder Bremen takes action! Transfer flop Naby Keita has been suspended until the end of the season. This was the club's reaction to the scandal surrounding the ex-Salzburg player, who deliberately did not travel to Leverkusen at the weekend. The 28-year-old also received a "substantial fine".

"Naby's behavior is intolerable for us as a club. With this action, he let his team down in a tense sporting and personnel situation and put himself above the team. We cannot allow that," explained Werder's sporting director Clemens Fritz in a press release on Tuesday.

Keita stayed at home on purpose
Ex-Salzburg player Keita, who was under contract with the Bulls from 2014 to 2016, did not travel with the team to Leverkusen on Saturday after learning that he would not be in the starting eleven. Werder clearly lost 5-0 and it is highly likely that Keita will leave the club in the summer.

Fritz: "At this stage of the season, we need full focus on the remaining games and a team that is very close together. There was therefore no alternative to our measures."

100,000 euro fine
According to "Bild", the Guinean was fined 100,000 euros and is also not allowed to train with the team or be in the professionals' dressing room.

Werder are 12th in the table with 31 points - five points clear of the relegation zone.
