Mourning for ORF journalist Susanne Newrkla
ORF journalist Susanne Newrkla has died after a long, serious illness, the ORF Editorial Board announced on Saturday. She was only 55 years old.
Newrkla had helped shape foreign reporting for decades, especially in the radio journals on Ö1, Ö3, FM4 and the ORF regional radio stations. "She was a pillar of the editorial team, including as ORF's correspondent in Washington," the committee paid tribute to the colleague.
She would be remembered by everyone as a particularly positive person. "She was never cynical or detached, and she believed in the good with all her might. She charmed her colleagues with her laughter and unwavering optimism. She was regarded as the soul of radio foreign policy, and until the very end she listened and cared about the problems of others. We miss her," it continues.
