“Ski racing has taken away my health”

28-year-old Lisa Hörnblad is the next athlete to hang up her skis. Sweden's strongest speed racer announced her retirement with an emotional post on Instagram: "Ski racing has taken my health, but has given me unforgettable memories and friends for life. I had so much fun during those years."

Injuries repeatedly set her back in her career. In 2022, Hörnblad tore her cruciate ligament and missed her second Olympic appearance.

In November last year, she railed against the Swedish federation, which she felt was not giving her enough support. This was also the main reason why she ended her career. "I can't go on like last season because it's impossible to compete against the best in the world without support, coaches and a team," Hörnblad wrote on Instagram.

"Last season was bad, so this decision is the right one for my well-being. Of course, my knee also plays a role in this."

Hörnblad has competed in a total of 45 World Cup races, with her best result in 2019 being an 11th place in the downhill in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. This year, she only finished in the points three times.

She may not have achieved her goals, but she is proud to have "always fought". She has always had to recover from injuries over the past four years.
