Success against Poland
Team boss Fuhrmann: “An absolute work victory”
Austria's women's national soccer team celebrated an important victory in the European Championship qualifiers on Tuesday. It was a victory of hard work, said team manager Irene Fuhrmann. But in the end the three points count.
Irene Fuhrmann (ÖFB team manager): "It's very important that we now have the three points in our account, that's the decisive factor. Everyone saw that it was a somewhat tense performance, an absolute work in progress, but it's still important that we've now got the points. The relief is naturally huge. At the end of the day, we have set ourselves a clear goal, which is participation in the EURO. The best way to do that is to qualify directly, which we've now kept open."
Sarah Puntigam (ÖFB captain and goalscorer): "It was an incredibly important win. We started well, then let up a bit and made it harder for ourselves than necessary. But in the end we stepped on the gas and deserved to win. Celi (Celina Degen) played me a great pass for the goal, I just took the ball, hit it and it went in. I'm delighted, it was an important goal. I'm happy that we won."
Lilli Purtscheller (ÖFB goalscorer): "I have to be honest, I wasn't really happy at the moment because I didn't know exactly how the ball went into the goal. I can only remember that Babsi Dunst put the ball in superbly and then it went into the goal. I wouldn't say I'm known for scoring goals, so I'm all the more pleased."
