Ski lady retires: “It was a hell of a ride”
Karoline Pichler has bid an emotional farewell to the ski circus on Instagram. The South Tyrolean was frequently plagued by injuries during her career, but never lost her love for the sport. The "hellish ride" is now over.
"Hard work, ambition and will were not enough to win World Cup races, but I have won challenges that I could never have imagined," explains the 29-year-old in her farewell post. Injuries had played too big a role in her career.
Nevertheless, she never lost her passion for the sport: "I was broken many times, but I have no regrets, I would do it all over again". Now, however, it is time to say goodbye to the love of her life, skiing.

"It's been a hell of a ride and I've given everything for this sport," she says emotionally, adding: "I definitely haven't achieved all my goals, but I can be incredibly proud of my career."
Pichler's skiing career was not under a good star right from the start. In her early 20s, she suffered four serious knee injuries within 33 months. In January 2023, she tore her cruciate ligament for the third time. This was followed by a meniscus tear last December and finally the realization that it was time to hang up her skis.
