Priority action
31 drunk drivers caught in a single night
The Styrian police took a particularly close look during the night from Friday to Saturday. The result of the focus campaign: 2200 checks, 31 drink-drivers, 20 "licenses" gone - and one speeding driver stood out in particular.
On Saturday night, the police carried out a special operation in all Styrian districts, on expressways and highways. And it was successful: out of 2,200 drivers checked, 31 were "excessively drunk" and three were under the influence of drugs. The police "confiscated" the driving licenses of 20 drivers.
There were 1,060 reports and 230 penalties for speeding. One driver was driving 61 km/h too fast on the highway! Just two days ago, a speeding driver drove 71 km/h too fast in the construction zone of the Phyrnautobahn and his car was confiscated.
Police plan more checks
"The result of this intensive night of checks proves that our measures to increase road safety are urgently needed to raise awareness of responsible behavior in road traffic." Styrian police are also expected to carry out more road traffic checks in the future," says head of operations Klaus Rexeis.
