Schoolboy (15) dies after being beaten in France

A 15-year-old boy died in France on Friday afternoon after being brutally beaten in front of his school. The boy suffered a cardiac arrest, as the public prosecutor's office announced.

He is said to have been attacked by three masked people, probably teenagers. The incident took place on Thursday in Viry-Châtillon. Video camera footage is being used to identify the attackers.

On Tuesday, a 13-year-old girl was also attacked near her school in Montpellier and beaten into a coma. She has since woken up, but has "serious injuries." Three teenagers have already been arrested as suspected perpetrators in this case, including a girl who attends the same school as the victim. According to initial investigations, they had previously insulted each other in online networks.

Macron: better protection for schools
Schools must be better protected against such acts, said French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday during a visit to an elementary school in Paris. The form of "rampant violence among our young people" must be combated, he said. "Schools must be safe places for our children, for their families and for our teachers."
