Scandal after defeat
Kalvin Phillips gives his own fans the middle finger
Kalvin Phillips caused a scandal following West Ham's 4-2 away defeat against Newcastle United. On the way to the team bus, the six-man gave his own fans the middle finger.
Phillips, who was loaned to West Ham from Manchester City at the start of the year, had a poor day against Newcastle. The Englishman was substituted for Michail Antonio in the 69th minute and around ten minutes later he conceded a penalty for the home side, which Alexander Isak converted to make it 2-3. Two more goals were to follow, and in the end the Londoners were beaten 3-4.
"You are useless"
Phillips was singled out by the fans as the main culprit, with videos currently circulating online showing an angry fan shouting "you're useless" at him. The 28-year-old countered non-verbally with a raised middle finger.
Not exactly an application for a permanent position with the Hammers. Phillips did not have the easiest time under Pep Guardiola in Manchester and it does not look like he will become the fans' new favorite at West Ham either ...
