After scandalous match:
Will Fenerbahce soon be playing in Spain’s league?
It would be the worst-case scenario for Turkish soccer! Top club Fenerbahce Istanbul is threatening to leave the league after the scandalous game against Trabzonspor. According to Spanish media, La Liga and Ligue 1 are ready to help!
They were images of horror! They showed violent altercations on the pitch. Fans attacked Fenerbahce players with punches and kicks. The Turkish Football Association has announced a review of the incident and criminal sanctions. FIFA President Gianni Infantino described the fan attacks as "absolutely unacceptable" in an Instagram post and called for penalties.
Fenerbahce will therefore hold an extraordinary general assembly on April 2. The club wants to decide on its future - and yes, it is even considering withdrawing from the league.
The fifth item on the meeting's agenda reads: "Evaluate the measures to be taken, including the withdrawal of our soccer team from the Süper Lig based on the events that occurred at the match on the night of March 17, 2024 and the recent events in Turkish soccer."
Two options
As the Spanish newspaper "Marca" reports, La Liga has already offered itself as a replacement, but France's Ligue 1 could also become an option. After all, Fenerbahce has a broad fan base with which a lot of money could be made.
