Priority check
12 drink drivers and 11 drug drivers pulled over
No fewer than 23 people were caught driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the weekend as part of police enforcement operations. The officers also registered numerous other offenses: from a rusted-out exhaust pipe to driving without a license.
Between Friday and Sunday, the Vorarlberg State Traffic Department carried out increased traffic checks in Feldkirch, Frastanz, Dornbirn, Lustenau, Lauterach and on the Rhine Valley highway. The officers, who were supported by police doctors and technical experts, caught quite a few things. They caught twelve drink drivers and eleven drug drivers. Nine people were carrying narcotics, 814 drivers were speeding and the police also issued a further 223 traffic citations.
32 cars were sent for special inspections due to technical defects, and four cars had their license plates removed because the catalytic converter was missing. One Romanian driver gave the officers a particularly hard time. He was driving without a license. As it turned out, the Swiss border guards had taken a forged license from the man only a short time before. In addition, the side skirts and exhaust pipe of his car were completely rusted through - even though the car had only been inspected a few months ago.
