Thiem: No start at Challenger tournament in Naples
Dominic Thiem had imagined things differently. After two early defeats on the Challenger Tour in Szekesfehervar and Zadar, the Lower Austrian has put the brakes on for the time being and will not be starting in Naples next week.
He was supposed to be recharging his batteries on the Challenger Tour, but instead he suffered two painful defeats: the loss in round one in Szekesfehervar, Hungary, against Daniel Michalski (3:6, 4:6) and yesterday's defeat in the red-white-red generation duel against Lukas Neumayer (2:6, 1:6).
No start in Naples
The former world number three is in a bad way. And Thiem is obviously taking his time to think about it or to put in another training block. He will not be playing the Challenger tournament in Naples as originally planned and has withdrawn his participation today.
Estoril and Munich on the program
Thiem's next appearance is therefore scheduled for the ATP 250 tournament in Estoril (1.4 - 7.4), after which the 2020 US Open winner will be on the entry list for Munich (13.4 - 21.4) - also a 250 tournament.
