Nagelsmann: “And I also speak for Tuchel”

In a Q&A session with fans, Julian Nagelsmann was asked about his departure as Bayern coach last season, among other things. Germany's national coach couldn't help but take a swipe at his former club and also referred to Thomas Tuchel, who is now facing a similar fate.

"I have a general opinion on how you deal with coaches, what you expect from a coach and, on the other hand, how you have his back and give him the time to do it," said Nagelsmann. "It's always said that the coach is the most important person at the club. And it's bizarre that you always sack the most important person first. There's something wrong with that," the Bavarian native made clear.

"Normal and healthy"
Nagelsmann was sacked in March 2023 after just one and a half years in office, while Thomas Tuchel, who subsequently took his place on the bench, must now also pack his bags at the end of the season. Nagelsmann cannot quite understand why Munich directly replace their coaches in times of crisis; after all, ups and downs are part of sport. "In the end, it's normal - and I speak for Thomas Tuchel here - that not just one team is always champion. That's normal and it's also healthy," Nagelsmann said.

The 36-year-old is convinced that FC Bayern can certainly take something positive from the fact that they are unlikely to win the championship. "You make the biggest mistakes when you're successful and if you're not successful, you have to have fixed a lot of things beforehand in order to be successful again straight away. You just have to admit it to yourself a little bit and have a certain calmness to go through a valley from time to time."
