Despite mega lead
Lara Gut-Behrami admits: “I was nervous”
Overall World Cup winner and winner of the giant slalom classification - Lara Gut-Behrami scooped double honors on Sunday. Even her nervousness couldn't stop her in the giant slalom in Saalbach.
Thanks to the mega lead of 95 points over Federica Brignone, who won the race on Sunday, tenth place was enough in the end. "Winning this globe is incredible. It means a lot to me, everything for me has always been about the giant slalom. If I knew I was doing well there, I could also do well in the other disciplines. I longed to be able to compete for the globe in the giant slalom at some point," explained the visibly relieved Gut-Behrami.
She can ski fast, but she had to ski cleverly on Sunday. And on snow conditions that don't really suit her. Which made her nervous.
"The goal is to get to the finish in good health"
Already having the big globe in her pocket is a "wonderful feeling". The 32-year-old can also secure the small crystals in the downhill and super-G next week. "The goal is to finish healthy. I will do my best. If it works out, it would be wonderful." In the discipline classification, she finished 21 points ahead of Brignone, with Scheib in twelfth place as the best Austrian.
