"Quake" after scandal
Rapid: “The derby win cost us points”
Third draw, flow lost - but with Isak Jansson, Rapid also has a "winner of the suspensions". "Mixed feelings" prevailed for sporting director Katzer after the 0-0 draw against LASK. His summary of the last few weeks: "The derby win cost us points."
Sounds crazy, but - due to the "quake" after the scandal - it's true. "Of course, that completely threw us off our stride," says Katzer, not talking about the suspensions.
No wins against Lustenau (1:1), in Klagenfurt (1:1) and now against LASK (0:0), only three out of nine points were scored - that's no way to attack third place. "But we have to see the positives," said Katzer, pleased that Dursun (just turned 19), Zivkovic (17), league debutant Seydi (still with Mauerwerk last season) and above all Jansson took their chance. The Swede is even the "winner of the lockdown".
"We've seen his potential," says Katzer, feeling vindicated. "He just has to get used to the higher intensity," says coach Klauß. Although Jansson is not yet a scorer like Grüll, he has the potential to replace the future Bremen player. Rapid can sign the 22-year-old (market value 1 million euros) from FC Cartagena (Spain) for 250,000 euros in the summer. A bargain. Rapid are finally acting with foresight in their squad planning and are no longer surprised by departures.
What's next for Mayulu?
However, Mayulu's development is faltering: "He's young, he was in the second division last season, he doesn't yet know how good he can be," says Klauß, holding a protective hand over the 21-year-old. Some believe the Frenchman will have an "explosion", others not even Rapid. Katzer has already brought in Bischof (21, currently parked at Vienna) as an alternative for the forward line.
Test againstVienna
Rapid want to rest during the international break. On Thursday, they will test behind closed doors against Vienna so that the suspended players Grüll and Burgstaller can also get some match practice. Katzer: "And then we want to get back into the flow."
