Looking for a place to sleep: Truck stolen

Cinematic, curious, but seriously criminal: While a truck driver was unloading items, an unknown person swung himself into the driver's cab and simply drove off with the truck in Carinthia.

At 11.40 a.m. on Thursday, a man from Villach was unloading items from his truck in his home town. Suddenly, a stranger jumped into the driver's cab, started the truck and drove off.

Search operation successful
The 53-year-old man from Villach immediately pressed charges. Several patrols from Villach police station, Villach-Land police station, the provincial traffic department and the crew of the Libelle police helicopter searched for the truck and the thief.

Shortly afterwards, officers from Faak am See police were able to stop the fleeing driver before the entrance to Drobollach. He was arrested for grand theft. The truck was returned to the owner undamaged.

Accommodation wanted
The officers had not reckoned with the perpetrator's explanation: the 38-year-old Austrian had been looking for a place to live - and had therefore stolen the truck.
