Bayern Munich continue to win, ultimately winning 5-2 at Darmstadt on Saturday in the 26th round of the German Bundesliga despite falling behind. But star striker Harry Kane crashed into the goalpost and had to come off injured.

Bayern Munich have reduced the gap to Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen to seven points for the time being. The German record champions beat bottom-of-the-table Darmstadt 98 5-2 in the 26th round. Leverkusen do not have to face SC Freiburg until Sunday.

Bayern Munich had recently failed to win away from home four times. Now the team of outgoing coach Thomas Tuchel got back on track with a clear result on foreign soil after their quarter-final advance in the Champions League against Lazio Rome (3-0) and the resounding victory against Mainz (8-1).

Assistance from Honsak
It didn't go against the bottom club in the table without a slight detour, the 0:1 deficit after half an hour, in which Joshua Kimmich allowed himself to be run over by Mathias Honsak, who provided the assist. But then the show was over for Darmstadt. Jamal Musiala equalized in the 36th minute after an assist from Harry Kane, then scored twice after an hour with a strong individual move (64') and also set up Serge Gnabry's fourth goal.

In addition to the strong Musiala, who was involved in three goals for the second time in a row, Kane also increased his statistics. The Englishman, who is chasing Robert Lewandowski's Bundesliga record (41 goals in one season), scored his 31st league goal before half-time to make it 2-1. In stoppage time, Mathys Tel (93') made it 4:1 and Oscar Vilhelmsson (95') improved Darmstadt's goal difference a little. However, Kane was forced off in the 80th minute after crashing into the goalpost during a goal-scoring opportunity.

Wimmer in focus
Patrick Wimmer was the focus of attention in Wolfsburg's 1:3 (1:1) home defeat against Augsburg. On his return to the starting eleven after tearing syndesmosis ligaments in his ankle, the striker put the hosts ahead in the ninth minute with a shot from inside the box and was sent off with a red card shortly before the break after an infringement on Kevin Mbabu in front of the sixteen. A wrong decision, as the man fouled was not the last man. Arne Maier used the resulting free-kick to equalize, Pavao Pervan, who replaced the blessed Koen Casteels, had no chance with the deflected shot.

The game turned and Wolfsburg, who had set the tone until then, conceded two goals after the break through Kristijan Jakic (61st, 79th) and suffered their third defeat in a row. The club is now without a win in eleven games. The situation is getting tight for coach Niko Kovac, who is still six points clear of the relegation places.

Mainz 05, the club of the two Austrians Phillipp Mwene (played through) and Karim Onisiwo (from 73), are in that position. With the 2-0 (1-0) home win over VfL Bochum with Kevin Stöger, Bo Henriksen's team made up for the 8-1 defeat against Bayern a week earlier and reduced the gap to Bochum and Wolfsburg and the safety margin to six points.

Another three points ahead of them is Union Berlin, who won 2:1 (0:0) at home against Werder Bremen with captain Christopher Trimmel. The visitors were without the injured Marco Friedl and the suspended Romano Schmid.
