"Bomber"? Not a chance!

The two Ländle clubs play without top scorers

The top scorers from Altach and Lustenau Austria scored just three measly goals in the last Bundesliga round. The "bombers" of the other clubs scored much more often in comparison.

"Every striker has these phases at some point," says Altach assistant coach Roman Wallner, who has scored 166 times in 527 games. "The strikers don't want to miss or let the goalkeeper keep the ball," says Wallner. "They get annoyed about every single missed goal opportunity." The former team player (29 appearances, seven goals) also had to put up with negative phases. And he remembers: "When you score, you don't remember exactly what you did. If you miss, you can remember every single movement afterwards. And in the end you know exactly what went wrong."

Practicing automatisms
According to Wallner, there is no panacea. "We're working on automatisms, we're trying to boost self-confidence," says the 42-year-old. Talking too much about missed scoring chances doesn't help the strikers. "On the contrary, it eats away at your self-confidence." He is confident that the Altach strikers will score again soon: "We've created an incredible number of chances in the last few games. At some point, our attackers will crack again," concludes Wallner.
