Man tipped a 16-ton housing onto his feet
A 35-year-old man from Villach was working alone on a machine housing in a production hall of a company in Paternion on Monday afternoon. This is when the accident happened.
The housing was standing with all four corners on wooden posts to avoid standing directly on the concrete floor. It was also secured at the top by an electric cable winch.
The man was in the process of moving a rotor that was already inside using a manually operated cable winch when one of the wooden blocks was split in the middle, presumably due to the weight distribution. The housing toppled to the ground on one side.
The worker, who was standing inside the casing at the time, had the approximately 16-ton casing fall on both feet. The screams alerted his colleagues to the incident and they freed the 35-year-old after the casing was lifted by the electric cable winch.
The injured man was then flown to Klagenfurt Hospital by the ALPIN 1 rescue helicopter.
