Super-G in Kvitfjell
Shock moment for Frenchwoman, fog as a factor
The second super-G in Kvitfjell started with difficulties. Fog rolling through caused repeated interruptions. Laura Gauche was the first to venture out of the starting gate and crashed. After a few anxious minutes, the all-clear was given.
Gauche wanted to start the race at 11 a.m. as planned and was then called back. Parts of the course were obscured by fog - the start was delayed by a few minutes.
When the Frenchwoman was finally allowed to start, the fog began to roll in. Nevertheless, Gauche was able to cover most of the course without any difficulties. A few gates before the finish, however, there was a moment of shock.
Another interruption to the race
She lost control of her skis and ultimately crashed hard onto the piste. The 28-year-old initially remained lying down. After a few minutes, however, she managed to get back on her feet and ski to the finish herself. Great relief for the athlete and the fans.
However, the fog continued to thwart the race plans. After Lauren Macuga and ÖSV athlete Ariane Rädler crossed the finish line, the race had to be interrupted again for around half an hour.
