TikTok grandma conjures up a classic with award-winning chef

Clear the kitchen for TikTok grandma Trude and "Krone" one-menu chef Christoph Vogler! They join forces to conjure up an Austrian classic on the plate.

Internet star Gertrude Lechner, alias "Trude Oma", had chef Christoph Vogler chill the chopped vegetables for the next day - but there couldn't be enough "Knofi" for that. Together, the two cooked a roast pork à la Grandma Trude in the kitchen of the Aelium in St. Pölten. The 92-year-old Wachau native amuses over 100,000 people on TikTok with her short videos. Granddaughter Kathrin manages the sprightly great-grandma.

Trude feels right at home in the kitchen. For many years, she stood behind the stove in her husband's inn in Aggsbach in the Melk district. She recently showed award-winning chef Christoph Vogler how she prepares her roast pork. It was served with real Waldviertel dumplings. "That's how my grandma always prepared them," Vogler tells the 92-year-old. "Old people aren't stupid either!" she replies cheekily.

Bacon cabbage is also on the plate. "You have to cut the bacon a bit bigger, not in such small pieces. So that you can feel it when you eat it," she says to the chef. There's one thing Trude Oma knows how to do: buy!
