Defending champions Bayern Munich failed to get past SC Freiburg 2:2 (1:1) in Germany's Bundesliga on Friday! 

After trailing 1-0, Bayern turned the game around in the meantime, but Lucas Höler equalized in the 88th minute after an assist from ÖFB team striker Michael Gregoritsch. Leaders Bayer Leverkusen could extend their lead over Bayern to ten points with a win in the derby in Cologne on Sunday.

Christian Günter gave Freiburg an early lead (12'). The 18-year-old Mathys Tel equalized for Bayern before the break with his fourth league goal (35'). Young star Jamal Musiala made it 2:1 for Bayern (75') with a remarkable individual move in which he outpaced several Freiburg players on the left. After a long throw-in, however, Munich were caught off guard: Gregoritsch, who had come on as a substitute ten minutes earlier, let the ball bounce to Höler, who finished into the far corner.

For Bayern's new sporting director Max Eberl, there was no full success to celebrate in his first game in office, the club's 2000th in its Bundesliga history. In the first game after the decision to part ways with coach Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season, Bayern had beaten RB Leipzig 2-1 last week. Prior to that, the serial champions had lost three competitive matches in a row.

Konrad Laimer was substituted for the Munich side in the 64th minute. Freiburg were missing Philipp Lienhart, who is still injured. His club are now winless in six league games, but took a "bonus point" against Bayern and remain in 9th place for the time being.
