Fire at Salzburg police detention center
Fire, screams and the emergency doctor on duty: a fire broke out in the Salzburg police detention center (PAZ) at around 9:50 pm on Monday evening. A Bosnian man is accused of setting fire to two mattresses.
An emergency doctor and of course the police, who have their regional headquarters next door, were on site. The Salzburg professional fire department was alerted at 21:56. When they arrived in the south of Salzburg, they only had to carry out ventilation work, the fire had already been extinguished by the people on site.
A 30-year-old Bosnian national, an inmate of Salzburg police detention center, is accused of having caused a fire in his cell by lighting two mattresses with matches at around 9:45 pm. Two officers from Salzburg police detention center responded immediately to the smoke and opened the cell in question. One of the mattresses was already on fire just behind the cell door. The officers extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher, rescued the inmate from his cell and treated him on site. The slightly injured administrative detainee was then taken to Salzburg University Hospital by the Red Cross. At around 11:50 p.m., the accused inmate was taken back to Salzburg police detention center, where he will serve his outstanding administrative sentence.
