Storm operation in Lower Austria
Shopping center billboard crashed onto roadway
The violent storm throughout Austria caused several call-outs in several federal states. The fire department in Wiener Neudorf (Lower Austria) also had to be called out after the billboard of the Westfield Shopping City Süd (SCS) near the Südautobahn freeway came loose.
When the volunteer fire department arrived at the popular shopping center in the middle of the night, the first pieces were already falling onto the road. Fortunately, however, there were no further subsequent accidents.
Meter-long billboard secured
Despite the difficult weather conditions, the emergency services secured the meter-long billboard with lashing straps to prevent anything worse from happening. However, the storm gusts of up to 105 km/h prevented the final dismantling of the billboard.
No injuries
Nevertheless, individual letters could be removed and safely deposited. The police cordoned off the entire area, including the roadway, during the operation.
A total of three vehicles and 14 members of the Wiener Neudorf volunteer fire department were at the scene. No one was injured.
