Frings: “Election campaign will be dirty either way”

There are many reasons for a so-called Super Election Sunday in June. An "efficient election campaign" that does not spill over into the summer months, but tax savings would also be on the cards in this case. Nevertheless, there are cautionary voices: The municipalities would face an immense amount of work if the EU and National Council elections were held at the same time. "If a mistake is made here, the elections would have to be rescheduled and no one would be helped," says "Krone" internal politics journalist Nikolaus Frings.

But what are the arguments for bringing forward the National Council elections? "To believe that the election campaign won't get dirty is illusory anyway. It will be dirty either way," predicts the "Krone" internal politics journalist in an interview with krone.tv presenter Jana Pasching, when asked whether early elections would not also suggest a fear of confrontation on the part of the ÖVP. After Chancellor Karl Nehammer's speech, the ÖVP is hoping for better chances than in the fall.

"One would only be huddle"
Before the election currently planned for the fall, sub-committees are still planned, which already began their work in January. "If there really are early elections, there's really little point in trying to get anything going here. It would only lead to a mess." The tendency would be to wait and form alliances, in which case the sub-committees would be set up in the fall after an election.
