Great jubilation for Dominik Paris! The South Tyrolean won the first downhill in Kvitfjell on Friday, preventing a Swiss quadruple victory. The race was completely disappointing for the ÖSV men. 

Only Stefan Babinsky (+1.11 seconds) just managed to finish in the top 10. The Austrians are now winless in 36 races in the World Cup. Meanwhile, Marco Odermatt secured his fourth overall World Cup triumph en suite with second place.

In unusually high temperatures for Kvitfjell at this time of year, a salt-treated slope in the lower section and intermittent wind, Vincent Kriechmayr (+1.41 sec.) and Stefan Eichberger (+1.52) missed out on the top 10. Otmar Striedinger (+2.96), Raphael Haaser (+3.03) and Manuel Traninger (+3.12) were further away from the best of the day and missed out on the points. Daniel Hemetsberger was unable to compete due to acute back pain and flew back to Austria for clarifications.

"Not entirely fair conditions"
For Paris, it was his 23rd victory in the Ski World Cup and 19th in the downhill. The Italian has now collected five victories in downhill and super-G in Kvitfjell. "I feel quite comfortable there, I've also understood pretty well how you have to behave on the piste to make it work. The external conditions are not entirely fair. It's windy, it changes a lot," explained the veteran on ORF television. You have to "hit the line pretty well" from top to bottom and "hope that the weather plays along a bit".
