Drunk bus driver causes crash in early morning traffic

A rear-end collision on Innsbruck's Südring caused delays in early morning traffic on Thursday. The crash was presumably caused by a bus driver who was already drunk in the morning. His working day was over, and he won't be back at the wheel any time soon.

The accident happened at around 8.45 am. The 48-year-old had suddenly steered the bus out of the bus stop onto the road at Südring in the Burgenlandstraße area. According to the police, a Tyrolean man (42) was driving his car into the city directly behind the bus - he was still able to brake hard.

Woman injured and taken to hospital
A following female driver (58) was unable to stop in time and hit the 42-year-old's car, it was reported. The woman suffered injuries and had to be taken to Innsbruck Hospital by ambulance after receiving first aid at the scene of the accident.

His driver's license was confiscated on the spot and he was prohibited from continuing to drive.

A breathalyzer test on the 48-year-old bus driver was positive. When asked by Krone, the suspect was said to have had between 0.8 and 1.2 per mille. "His driver's license was taken from him on the spot and he was banned from continuing to drive," said the investigators. Corresponding charges will follow.
