Munich-Salzburg railroad line closed for hours

A driver narrowly escaped death when he lost control of his vehicle on a snow-covered road in Bavaria on Thursday evening and skidded onto the tracks. At that moment, a regional train was also approaching Salzburg station. The collision with the car triggered an evacuation of the train.

In Stephanskirchen near Rosenheim, a car driver skidded on a snow-covered level crossing and lost control of his vehicle - the car skidded onto the tracks. Fortunately, the man was able to get to safety in time before the train hit the car.

Collision led to power failure on the train
A passenger told krone.at that the train had to be evacuated as a result, and the accident led to a power cut (see video above). "The train consisted of two sets and several carriages, so the passengers could be split up and continue their journey. The train attendants organized everything well," said the passenger.

Both the driver and the 85 passengers traveling on the intercity train from Munich to Salzburg were uninjured, reported a Rosenheim police spokesperson on Friday night.

The line had to be closed. The train involved in the accident was driven to Rosenheim station - where the passengers were able to leave the train.

Car recovered by crane
The car, which was removed from the tracks with a crane, and the locomotive of the IC1291 were damaged, but passengers were able to travel back towards Munich with the second locomotive at the end of the train, explained a Deutsche Bahn spokesperson. Passengers were finally able to disembark in Rosenheim. The line between Munich and Rosenheim was closed for several hours due to the rescue work.
