Firework explodes in hand of boy (14)

At around 11 p.m. in Bregenz, three children aged between 11 and 14 were experimenting with homemade firecrackers. Suddenly, one of the fireworks exploded in the 14-year-old's hand, partially amputating several of his fingers.

The 14-year-old was not the only one to suffer damage to his health. The explosion caused two splinters to enter the eyes of another of the boys, and his eardrum was also damaged. The third boy suffered tinnitus.

All three children were taken by ambulance to the regional hospital in Feldkirch. The 14-year-old's injured hand was operated on immediately. This was not the only successful operation. The doctors were also able to remove the splinters from the eyes of the second child. 

It is not yet clear where the boys got the exploded object from and whether it was a purchased or homemade firework. The police will deal with these questions in the coming days.
