Drug driver punches and kicks police officer

Officers from the Vorarlberg Provincial Traffic Department scored a direct hit during a stop in Fußach on Thursday afternoon. They pulled over a driver who had consumed drugs - and also had a dose of cannabis in his vehicle. 

The officers had noticed the driver due to his driving style. When they stopped him and questioned him, the man acted "quite hot-tempered and unruly", according to the police. He then completely blew a fuse when a saliva test showed a positive result for drugs and the cannabis was also found in his car. The 44-year-old jumped out of his vehicle and tried to flee.

However, the escape attempt was not particularly successful: the police officers detained him, whereupon the thuggish drug driver fought back with kicks and punches. In the end, the officers were able to arrest the ruffian and seize the cannabis. One of the police officers was slightly injured in the scuffle. 

The drug driver's license was confiscated on the spot. The 44-year-old was released and reported to the Feldkirch public prosecutor's office and the Bregenz district authority on suspicion of several offenses under the Criminal Code and the Road Traffic Act.
