Everyday companions are the heart of the house communities

Hospital-like retirement homes are a thing of the past! A model sponsored by the state of Salzburg focuses on living together in care facilities. But there is also criticism: the everyday companions needed in the shared homes feel left alone by the politicians. 

When the elderly ladies and gentlemen in the "Hoamat Achfeld" home communities in Golling sit together, they can already smell the aroma of food in the morning. This is particularly good for those with dementia. They work up an appetite and know that lunchtime is approaching. Because cooking in this retirement home is not done away from the rooms, but in the communal areas. It's a bit like living at home in the past.
