Miguel is completing the final year of his apprenticeship as an electrical engineer at voestalpine Precision Strip in Böhlerwerk. The apprentice has opted for an apprenticeship with a school-leaving certificate.

"I discovered a job offer at voestalpine by chance. I signed up for a trial day, I liked electrical engineering, and I was accepted. That's how my apprenticeship began." Without electrical engineers, nothing usually works in a company. They are responsible for maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs.

A lot of patience required
Another main area of responsibility for electrical engineers is setting up switching and control systems. "I get around the company a lot and I think that's great. I like to troubleshoot and draw my own circuit diagrams. You have to think about complex structures. That's interesting," says the apprentice. He also enjoys programming at vocational school.

"Patience is very important in this job and I also need it when searching for errors, which can sometimes take longer."

Miguel is already in his final year of his apprenticeship and already has clear plans for the time after his successful completion: "As I have decided to do an apprenticeship with a school-leaving certificate, there is still a lot to do. Although I'm doing quite well, I still have English ahead of me. After that I would like to stay at voestalpine."
